Concepts that anchor the workers compensation systems of the 10 provinces and three territories of Canada. The principles were contained in the Meredith Report authored by Sir William Meredith in 1913. As outlined in that document, employers fund the workers compensation system in exchange for immunity from lawsuits arising from workplace injury. In trade for giving up their rights to sue employers or other workers protected under the Workers Compensation Act, workers receive benefits if injured, regardless of fault.
